College scholarships for high school juniors are available around the United States from various organizations attempting to help young people prepare early for their futures in college. Many different high school junior scholarships are available at the national level, though there are also some which are available more locally or regionally. Students who are interested in these HS junior scholarships should be decent writers as there are many different essay programs, or at the very least have a strong academic background. Of course there is a diverse setting from which these scholarships all come from, so students will be able to be able to apply themselves to scholarships for high school juniors from many different sources thus allowing them to highlight a number of their talents.

If a student has not yet begun planning for college scholarships, the junior year of high school will be an important year as they start working towards getting access to financial aid. Fortunately, with the good number of programs available at the junior level, it should not be difficult for a high school junior to find the financial aid they will need.

Scholarships for High School Juniors from many Places

Essay contests are as common in providing a scholarship for high school junior as they are in almost all grade groups. The Writer Magazine provides the Sylvia K. Burack Writing Award Competition every year to students in grades 11 and 12. All applications to this scholarship for high school juniors will need to be residents of Canada and the United States. A varying number of $500 scholarships will be awarded and students will be published in the Writer Magazine. All application materials must be submitted by March 31.

The Ayn Rand Foundation provides a number of essay scholarships for high school juniors, as they do for students at multiple grade levels. Juniors will be able to submit an essay to the Fountainhead Essay Contest, writing under one of the topics listed on the website. A first prize winner will receive $10,000, five second placers will receive $2,000, and 10 third place submissions will get a $1,000 award. Forty five additional students will be selected to receive $100 and 175 semi-finalists will get $50. All applicants will need to be in 11th or 12th grades and have their essays turned in by April 26.

Another essay contest which gives out high school junior scholarships comes from the Baptist Joint Commission for Religious Liberty. Students in grades 11 and 12 are eligible to compete, and they must submit an essay regarding their First Amendment rights regarding the free practice of religion. Students can win $1,000, $500, and $100 for first, second, and third places respectively. All applications materials must be turned in no later than March 15.

High school junior college scholarships from an essay contest are also available through the American Foreign Service Association. Supported by the US Department of State, this program gives out $1,000 to $4,000 to students looking to go on to college. It is open to juniors and high school students in all other grades. Students will be expected to adhere to the specific guidelines of the program and write an essay on a provided topic. All application materials must be submitted no later than April 15.

A final college scholarship for high school juniors provided through an essay contest comes from Penguin Books. This program provides five different $1,000 scholarships to high school juniors who write winning essays on a selected topic regarding Emma by Jane Austin. High school juniors or seniors are eligible to enter and must select one of the five preselected topics in order to be considered. Essay must be turned in by July 2 in order to enter by the deadline.

Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) provide the Voice of Democracy speaking competition every year as a scholarship for high school juniors. The top prize is a $30,000 scholarship to a future college of a student’s choice, and another $121,000 in awards will be given out to students who do not come in first. Juniors and other high school aged students will be eligible to participate in the program. In order to compete, students will need to prepare a speech and be able to present it to a gathered audience. Application materials will need to be turned in no later than November 1.

The Moody Foundation has run the Moody’s Math Challenge giving out college scholarships for high school juniors since at least 2006. Students create teams from amongst their colleagues at their respective schools and all applicants must be in either 11th or 12th grades. The program consists of a competition over selected mathematical problems which contestant will attempt to complete. Winners will receive $20,000 scholarships meaning that a team of five can win up to $100,000 total. All teams must be registered by February 25.

C-Span, the organization known for filming the incredibly exciting sessions of congress, provides scholarships for high school juniors through a filming project. The Student Cam program asks students to grab a camera, pick a provision of the US Constitution and then make a short 5-8 minute documentary on their chosen topic. Students can be awarded $5,000 for the grand prize, $3,000 for first, $1,500 for second, $750 for third and $250 if they receive honorable mention. All applications must be submitted no later than January 20.

Central Oregon’s The Center Foundation provides HS scholarships every year exclusively to high school juniors. Students will need to be involved in leadership activities, community service or other extracurricular programs. All applicants will need to be juniors in a high school in Central Oregon, and be available to participate in an interview. Further, applicants will be expected to have at least a 3.5 grade point average. Applications will need to be turned in by February 15.

There are many different high school junior scholarships around, so attempt to find something which fits your needs and personal attributes is always best. Between essay contests, competitions of knowledge, and other various opportunities students should not have a problem trying to find funding for their futures in college. It is of course important to remember that finding scholarships for high school juniors at such an early stage is a useful way to ensure future funding is available, so students should not wait too long to start jumping on potential applications.
