Applications for the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards Scholarship
The applications for the Prudential Spirit of Community Award is available each year in September. They are sent, along with the instructions, to the various junior high and high schools around the USA. In addition, they are sent out to various clubs and organizations such as Girl Scouts of America and Boy Scouts of America because they are the perfect scouting scholarships for the distinguished scout.
YMCA locations and The American Red Cross are also notified too for potential applicants. Students are encouraged to talk to their leaders in any of these capacities to get an application.
The completed applications need to be returned to the entity where they were picked up rather than being submitted directly to the organization. Applications can be filled out and submitted online as well. The application can be completed all at once or on sections. You can save what you have worked on, and then return to it later on to complete it. For paper applications, they are accepted both handwritten or typed.
Certification for the Prudential Spirit of Community Scholarship Awards
All applications have to be certified, and that can be done online as well. You can email the entity that will be certifying your application, and they can access it online to review it. Once certification is done, it also has to be signed by a parent or legal guardian to be accepted for the scholarship funds.
Who can Apply for the Prudential Spirit Awards?
Any students in grades 6 through 12 can apply for the community scholarships, and they also make top-notch high school scholarships for college.
Students must have completed a community volunteer service project within the last 12 months. Verification of the community service project must be included with the application. It needs to be verified by an authority figure within that charitable organization.
All applications must be turned in no later than November 1st. Then the local schools and organizations need to select and certify those that will be moving on for state judging. This must be completed by November 8th.
Any student that has previously won such an award can no longer be considered in subsequent years. However, that only applies if they have won at the level of a National Honoree.
Children of employees of Prudential also can’t apply for the scholarship funds. Schools don’t have to be a member of NASSP in order to participate in the program.
Children that are home schooled may apply if they also meet the grade criteria and the community service criteria. In such a situation, it is acceptable for the parent or legal guardian of the applicant to certify it for them to be submitted.
Prudential Spirit of Community Awards
There are at least 100 state honorees and 10 National honorees annually for the Prudential Spirit Awards. All state honorees will receive a certificate and a bronze medallion. The 10 National honorees earn $1,000 each, a certificate, and a silver medallion. The top junior high and the top high school honoree will get $,5000 as well as a trip to Washington, D.C.
They also will receive an additional $5,000 to donate to the charity of their choice. Winners will be announced in February and the conference takes place in May. The trip to Washington, D.C. is all expense paid for the student recipients as well as one legal guardian for each of them.
